Houston, Crafting, and a Yummy Treat

A couple of weeks ago, we went on a trip to Houston, TX - our future home. For those of you who do not know, Andrew has been accepted into a Physical Therapy Graduate program in Houston, and we will be moving there at the end of June. The school was hosting an open house at the beginning of February, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to visit the campus as well as friends and family in the area. When we arrived on Thursday, we must have brought the weather with us. Temperatures were a brisk 30 - 35 degrees (warm compared to Utah's 15 degree weather), which is unusual for the area. By Thursday night, everything was closed down in anticipation of possible snowfall and ice. I had to roll my eyes a little bit, but I do realized that the infrastructure in Houston is ready to accommodate such extreme weather conditions. Andrew received an email from his school saying that the open house was canceled. The funny thing was, the open house was supposed to have been on Saturday, and by then it had warmed up to a beautiful 50 degrees. Oh well. We headed down to the city to check out the school (which they wouldn't let us do without a tour guide who was gone until Monday).

Since our visit to the school didn't work out, we decided to hook up with some friends living in the area. Kristin, Daniel and Aurora fed us lunch and showed us around the area. It was great to see them again. The rest of the trip was filled with apartment hunting and spending time with Vanessa and the boys. Andrew got some good practice wrestling the little guys. I think they won....

So besides being a world traveler (I wish), I have been occupying my free time with some fun crafts. Jennie (Andrew's Sister), and I were inspired by the blocks Tahlia (my sis-in-law) had made me for Christmas, and we thought we'd give it a try. We made several sets, but this is my most successful and favorite. I have placed it sitting on the counter top in my kitchen.

I was also inspired by something I found on one of my favorite blogs. I made these boxes for Valentine's Day. I filled them with candy and gifts and gave them as gifts to a few loved ones. I think they turned out super cute! These were pretty easy to make - even for a novice crafter - and you could really use whatever paper you wanted to give them away for any occasion.

Last but not least, I wanted to share a cute little dessert I made last night. I've had these little tart pans sitting in my cabinet for months now, and rarely use them. So I decided to make mini cherry pies! Besides the cherry filling bubbling through the crust, they turned out so cute.....and delicious too!
Stay tuned in the next couple of days for an update on the baby bump! Love you all!
